Dev Log #8 - Exploration Mechanic Rework (0.3.2)


This week’s update is relatively small and invisible.

The Exploration mechanic has been reworked in preparation for some of the upcoming features.

Plans for Explore

Explore has always been a just place to gather resources but I always wanted it to do more. Mystic Forest is one of the example of this, where at the end of it, you get to train a villager to become a Doctor which is important in the late game.

With this rework, every dice with a (6) on it will eventually get a special explore feature. This is not added yet at the moment, but the structure has been set up for it. Currently, Forager will simply increase the food supply found in the location, and Explorer will be able to explore the Biome.

By exploring the Biome, you will be able to find areas that will allow you to research technology for free, or train different type of villagers, like the Mystic Forest. Different biome will also have different set of these areas, making each biome somewhat unique, other than just the type of resource it provide.

Coast and Fishing Village

A new tribe is also added together with a new Biome. Currently the Coast biome behaves like Grasslands, but that would be changed later.

The Fishing Village is also a work in progress. The Village is the same as Settlers’ and the starting resources is also similar. These will be changed in the next version.

Next Version

That’s all for this update. The next version will take slightly longer as the next part requires a lot more time and have more changes.
