Roadmap towards 2.0

It has been 1 month since the game launched and since then many things have been changed and added to the game.
Many of the changes in this month mainly focus on balancing the game and make each run winnable and enjoyable.
2 ambitions are also added to the game. They are the 2 of the ambitions that I wanted to add to 1.0 but didn’t manage to. There are a few more ambitions but some of the scope has grown so much that it makes more sense for it to be in 2.0.
1.2
Now that the game is relatively stable, I can take a step back and plan out the roadmap towards 2.0.
For the next few weeks, the goal is to get the game to 1.2. Here is the list of things that are planned. There might be changes if it makes more sense for them to be in 2.0 instead.
- Increase the total number of Ambitions to 10. (Currently 8)
- Increase the number of Food buildings to 10. (Done after this week’s patch)
- Increase the number of Utility buildings to 10. (Currently 9)
- Increase the number of Biomes to 8. (Currently 7)
- Add Random Mode
This will hopefully be done around early August, which will conclude 1.2.
2.0
After 1.2, my goal is to finally start upgrading the engine of the game to prepare for 2.0.
Weekly updates are good to keep the game fresh and balanced, but they do not allow me to work on bigger features. So after 1.2, the weekly updates will stop on the main branch.
However, if you are interested in following the development or to play with more experimental features, I will be setting up a beta branch for that later. You can also join the discord where I actively ask for suggestions or feedback on random ideas I have.
For 2.0, the goal is to launch it by mid October, just in time for Steam Digital Tabletop Fest.
Here is the target for 2.0 (subject to changes).
- 20 Ascension levels, including a 3rd difficulty setting for all ambitions.
- Increase the total number of ambitions to 12 - 14.
- Increase the total number of Food and Utility buildings to 12 each.
- Increase the total number of Biomes to 10.
- 2 unique locations per Biome.
- New mechanics.
- Redesign Run history screen.
- New modes?
- Steam Achievements
They are ordered in the order of priority. As usual, Steam Achievements are the lowest since they don’t add much to gameplay.
